Idea 1 - For one of our ideas we thought of going for the horror genre. The main person in the film will be running away from an unknown fear through a very dark and gritty home. As the person is running you can hear a lot of thumping and eventually the person reaches a dead end. The person will then turn round just to come face to face with a console. The ending will then be the person picking up a controller just as the words “Greatness awaits you” appears on the screen.
Idea 2 – This idea is about a character being controlled literally by an outside force, which will be a person handling a controller. As they do button inputs, it influences the character in the forest where we will set it. Such as the ‘x’ button causing the character to vault over things and/or jump. Or the square button to make him attack or swing his sword. It will end with the two characters being back to back in both settings, symbolising that they are one in the same.
Idea 3 – The last idea will show an apocalyptic world where the dead is walking. The film will then show a character watching them all before jumping in to the street where they all are. As the character jumps and attack the dead the screen will flicker to a normal person holding a controller at timed intervals. This will indicate that the character in the game and the normal person are the same as the character is being controlled.
SWOT Analysis - One strength I feel I have is with the editing as a whole, I'm sure that if we get the right footage I can easily do enough to make it a successful film in the end.
A weakness I feel I'll have is during filming, the time we have to film, we don't have long, and since we're filming on unpredictable terrain, we should be a location scout and scout the area before deciding when and where to film our film.
An opportunity for this film is getting connections if our film does well and gathers attention of higher ups who can send us the right way to making more advertisements.
The only threat I can think of would be competition, since that means our opportunities could be shot down and dwindled if they happen to do better than us for our film... So we must make sure our film is the best one our of them all.
I concluded my idea by contributing to this mood board, this should give a good visual representation of what we're going for.
As you can see, we are clearly going for a gender neutral, fantasy styled, outdoors vibe, at least for one of the characters, the other however is going to be inside, in a room, with a controller, controlling the character in this fantasy world.
We chose idea 2 because it's multiple perspectives, an interesting look at how immersive and involving games can be, to the point where you and the character do feel one in the same, you have the same goal, same friends, same experience. Since gaming appeals to a wide range of both male and females of any age we can easily show how lost int he worlds we can be and escape from reality.
As mentioned before, we would have a constraint being how long we can book equipment for, and how long we'd have to film. It's a huge issue, so instead of prattling about with different places and other nonsense, we have decided to go and scout the area and make sure that we know when and where we're going to shoot.
Anyone involved in the production must be informed of any changes or just the initial filming date and where we will be. As such, we have to make sure we have contact details of everyone involved in production too. The quality of our product may suffer a tad due to this deadlines but, if we work around it, we can create something truly special.
